Evaluation of my magazine.

1.    In what way does your media product use, develop, or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
1: The title of the magazine.
For my masthead “Tunes” I used the font “destroy”. I have used this font because it is eye catching and different. I was unsure on what colour to use as using one colour didn’t stand out. So by using two of the same text with different colours has highlighted the masthead making it stand out even more. I stuck to the 4 colours, pink, yellow, black, and white because these are the main colours in the image. However I haven’t used any yellow in the foreground because it wouldn’t stand out making it hard to read. These colours are not the usual choice however this makes my product unique. The colours I have used are also bold like the genre of music my magazine talks about (pop). My masthead follows the code of convention because like Kerrang my masthead covers the full width of the page. In addition to this, the way the title looks worn away and slightly rough is similar to real music magazines.

Kerrang also has a unique font that is slightly distraught.

I like my mast head and think it works well because it stands out because it is different.  Although the name of my magazine is simple the font makes it more memorable to the target audience.
2: Mis-en-scene of the image.

My magazine follows the codes and conventions of magazines because I have used more then one setting for my images. Including a yellow back drop to add colour and the library where there was good natural lighting. I used a plain backdrop the same as most magazine covers such as, Vogue or Vibe. The library shots also link in my photo because there was a section of books and magazines about music.

3: Costumes and Props.
For my magazine I asked my model to wear casual clothing as the magazine is casual and not limited edition or anything. However there were a few props we used. Firstly on the front cover and the contents page, we used headphones to make the image associated to music this also added colour to the images and captured your eye. I believe the yellow and pink go quite well together because the pink is so bold in comparison to the yellow. Secondly we used the phone as a source of which the music came from.
For the double page spread we used a book that was called “The Music Press” This making the image more of a music genre. This may also encourage my target audience to read about music more if they see famous people doing it to.
4: People.
On my magazine I have used one model because she is a representative of my magazine audience. By using a model of the same age category I am able to get more of their attention as they may find her story inspiring and want to know how she got to her position at that age, encouraging teenager to follow their dreams. With my model also is casual clothing its shows that fame isn’t all about looks and you don’t have to change who you are.
5: Title Font and Style.
MY FRONT COVER
MY CONTENT PAGE
AND MY DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

On my front cover I used more that a few fonts to add variety to my front cover. I used a lot of fonts because this way it isn’t boring and adds emotion to the text if it is in a nice font. The fonts I have used are easy to read and appealing to the eye. For my contents page I have used a simple font because the font has to be easy to read as it is quite small. For the article the double page spread I used the font “Calibri” this font is simple and looks neat.  On my double page spread I think my title is slightly unconventional in the sense that the text is positioned on a slight angle, whereas real magazines tend to keep their headlines in a straight line. However I feel that this will appeal more to my teenage audience because of its visual impact.
6: Written Content.
The written content of my magazine follows the codes and conventions of a real music magazine by covering similar topics, such as questionnaires.  In would ask question that the teenage audience would want to hear things like, What's you biggest influence in music?, When is your next album out? Etc. All of these topics could be found in a real music magazine aimed at teenagers and young adults.

7: Music Genre And How Your Magazine Suggest It.
The main genre of my music magazine is pop. This is quite clear throughout my magazine because of the props and colours on display. For example, the bold colours I have used throughout my magazine and the funky fonts on my front cover.in addition to this Shannon is used throughout my magazine as are the colours, pink, yellow, black, and white (all bold and pop like colours.). Real music magazines suggest their genre by the mis-en-scene of their images and the model, therefore my magazines follows the codes and conventions, by using conventions and codes associated with pop music.
8: Layout.
The layout of my magazine is conventional. My double page spread is conventional because there are the typical text columns with a large images covering slightly more than one page. The heading to this page also overlaps. This is to join the two pages together and clear that they are related. As well as this, my front cover follows layout conventions by having the masthead at the top of the page. My front cover also has a large image covering most the page the image being a mid shot like a few magazines. Around the images there are a selection of quotes and sell lines to advertise the magazine; these follow the conventions because every magazine has sell lines on the front cover.
9: Contents Page.
My contents page contains elements that follow the codes and conventions of music magazines. The layout of my magazine is similar to existing magazines such as “Q” and “Vibe” by having the text don’t one side of the page and “Vibe” has often used a single image rather than lots of images. My content also has a large title at the top of the page like every magazine also making it look more realistic.

2.    How Does Your Media Product Represent Particular Social Groups?
My magazine represents teenage girls which is the target audience. Firstly there is a clear indication that my magazine it aimed at girls because of the colours I have used. The colour pink is typically aimed at girls as it is a feminine colour; the yellow is also bright and is also a feminine summer colour which girls also like. Secondly there is a girl on all pages, she looks happy and natural listening to the music playing through her pink headphones. This kind of thing appeals more to girls because you can tell by the expression on her face what kind of music she is listening to. For example if she was listening to a sad song she would look sad and depressed, if she was listening to rock she would look slightly angry, but she is looking happy and joyful so you think she is listening to something fun like pop.  Research shows that more girls listen to pop than guys this is my magazine is slightly biased the females more than males.

3.    What Kind of Media Institution Might Distribute Your Media Product and Why?
I think that a media institution such as IPC Media would be the best to distribute my magazine. This is because, although it already distributes music magazines such as "NME", "Uncut" and "Guitar and Bass" my magazine is aimed at a much younger audience than these, therefore there is a gap in the market for it. In addition to this the fact that they are a well known, popular company will give my magazine an instant reputation and help with advertising this new product. With IPC already having a large audience this would expand their profits as I would be introducing a new audience so therefore they would benefit from my magazine to.

4.    Who Would Be The Audience For Your Media Product?
The target audience for my magazine would be ages 13-19 year old females, this being because according to my research from questionnaires girls are more likely to read magazines than males. So I used a genre that is mostly listened to my girls.
Typically my target audience would be in education.  Most of the girls would be listening to music while getting ready, studying, or music would just be in the background. And find out information of things such as the internet and TV; however my magazine would give them the ability to find out information such as who’s in the charts and new realises without wasting time.
5.    How Did You Attract/Address Your Audience?
I have tried to attract my target audience by the colours, font, and house style of the magazine.  The colours I have used are feminine. I have used these colours throughout my magazine to keep the house style continuous. This would also appeal to females, as girls like things to be organised.  I have also used feminine fonts that curl on the lettering and look attractive and girly. To address my audience I asked the subject in my images to look at the camera and smile. This creates a warm and friendly atmosphere witch fits with the genre of my magazine. Getting the subject to look out at the camera helps address the audience and makes them feel involved.

6.    What Have You Learnt About Technologies From The Process of Constructing This Product?
I use blogger to upload all of my work and keep things organised. I also used this so other students can view my work and see how they think I could improve it.

I also used photo shop to edit all f the images I used in my magazine to make them appear better and emphasise areas.

I used Indesign to put the pages together. I was very unsure on how to use this however by the help of other students I was able to learn and create a double page spread I’m proud of.

7.    Looking Back At Your Preliminary Task (The School Magazine Task), What Do You Feel You Have Learnt In The Progression From It To Full Product?

In the process of making my music magazine I have learnt how to use the appropriate photo editing sites such as photo shop and in design. I have learnt how the magazine would be published and all the research that the producers of the magazine have to do before the actual magazine can be started. I have also learnt that certain things are less appropriate for the magazine pages for example on the front cover the person must be looking directly at the camera. And on the contents looks more effective with more than one image however I didn’t do this because I didn’t like the possession of the other images. I have learnt how to use blogger to upload all my work so others are able to give feedback to help with my work.
Overall my magazine looks more professional than the college magazine because it follows more appropriate codes and conventions, the colours font and editing are much more appropriate.

mock up and analysis

Accent SF
Calibri (Body)
Algerian
AlphabetSoup Tilt BT
Ancestory SF
Amhurst SF
Aristocrat SF
Blackadder ITC
I have selected a range on font to see what would too better in my magazine in conclusion to my research I believe that the Lucida Calligraphy looks the most appealing I like this font because it is easy to read and looks effective. This font is more of a feminine font; we know this because of the flicks on the lettering. As because my magazine is more popular with the girls am going to use this font and make it more appealing to girls.
For text inside the magazine and on articles I would use a simple font such as Calibri (Body) so no matter how big or small it is it is still easy to read.
I wouldn’t use Accent SF font because this is very masculine and could be hard to read in some conditions, as the lettering is too thick.
I also wouldn’t use AlphabetSoup Tilt BT font because this is very childish and because my magazine is for teenagers I would like it to look more appealing to the teenage eye.

question eval

Questionnaire Evaluation.

I have conducted a survey to find out what my target audience find appealing in a music magazine, so that i can base my magazine on these results. I had a number of people answer my survey from roughly my target audence, i got a few people out of my target audence to find out what kind of things they are into.

Here is a copy of my questionnaire :
Music Questionnaire
        I.            Do you read any music magazines?

II.            Do you buy music magazines?

III.            How often do you buy music magazines?

IV.            How much do you pay?

      V.            What do you think is a reasonable price to pay?

VI.            If you do buy/read music magazines what magazine?

VII.            If you don’t why and what would make you want to read music magazines?

VIII.            What genre of music do you mostly listen to?

IX.            What would you want to find out when reading a magazine?

      X.            Would you participate in any music quizzes?

XI.            Do you like to hear about musicians?

XII.            When reading a music magazine would you want to read more about the musician/ artist’s gossip or about the music?

XIII.            Do you want to know the latest on concerts and after the concerts?

XIV.            Who is your favourite artist or group?

In conclusion to my questionaire i have found out that pop and indie are the most popular genres to my target audence (15-20).In conclusion to these results i will be aiming my magazine at this genre because this would get the most sale in my target audience. 80% of my results can back that they would pay around £2:00-£4:00 this means my magazine would be prices between these to make sure the magazine has a good selling price and attracts the audience. The most popular topic people want to read abut in the music magazines is things such as new releases, celeb gossip, the charts, concerts, and interviews. on my double page spread i do believe i would focus on one of these topics and it also helps with suggestions for my sell lines for the front cover and information for the contents.

Explination of how the results will effect my construction?

In my magazine i will have a single artist on  my front cover so they get the main focus and magazines i have researched also had a single artist cover, I wish to do this because then there will be more room for information and people will be able to focus omn the information and not jut an image. It also means the front cover will look more orginised because with a band it the background it can starts to look busy and people wont look and wont attract the audiences attention.
I wil use headlins that people want to read about meaning i would attract mor people from my target audience, raising sales and making a profit. by aiming my magazine at on age group this means i am able to focus on the information that this age group would relate to, it also means the language and presentation would be different as 15-20 year old would want a mixture of text but streight to the point and images that capture you eye.

double page spread evaluations

Double Page Spread

Top of the Pops magazine has a target audience of pre-teen girls, and the genre of music is pop. This Top of the Pops article is a double page spread of an interview with popular boy band The Wanted. The first page of the double page spread is the interview with the band, and the second page of the double page spread is for the images of the band and a box that has one question asked by the interviewer to the band.
The masthead is clear as it is a dark purple against the pain grey. The text is easy to read and more masculine than other fonts using in top of the pops because this is an article about a boy band. This masthead doesn’t cover the width of the page because there is a large image in the centre of the two pages.
The main image is of the wanted making it clear this is what the article is about. They are also dressed in gym clothing making you believe the article also is sports related. The image is very large and covers two pages this is also a division of the two sections of text so you don’t get muddled up and think its all one topic.
You can also tell this is a separate article because of the highlighted box the text to the right is written on. The text the producers have used through out this article is easy to read with attractive subheadings and highlighted features.
On this page the have stuck to using dark purples and pink these colours are used throughout the magazine giving the colours consistency making the magazine organized and professional.
In this double page spread the mast head is a quote. This is an interesting was to get the readers attention however it works and makes you want to know who want to “dress like lady gaga”. The masthead is bold and covers most of the first page making it clear what the article is about. The text is easy to read and the white stands out against the dark background and it is also clear that someone has stated this because of the clear emphasised punctuation.
Again there are many images scattered across the two pages however the main focus is on Leona Lewis. This is a mid shot and covering the right page. In this image Leona Lewis is laughing and looking directly at the camera showing confidence.
Each section of the text in this article has been put into different text box. Showing the text in each box has a new subject they are talking about. They have also used a speech bubbles to emphasise the quotations or questions.
The text through out is a simple font and easy to read the separate text boxes make it look organized and clear of the different subjects.
This double page spread has a traditional set up, as it is arranged in columns and the picture takes up half of the double page spread.  The columns are presented in tree columns following the information on in an organised way. There is a typical big letter at the start of the information showing where the text begins.
There is a large image of Florence and the machine on the left side of the double page spread making this the first thing you see when you turn the page over. She is wearing black on white background making her stand out. They have also used the red in her hair as part of the materials she is sat on showing consistence in the colours. She is looking directly at the camera showing confidence and making the reader feel connected.
There is a large sign saying USA behind Florence suggesting she is from the USA. The sign is in a light grey just enough to stand out but not taking the attention away from the main image. Even though the flag isn’t clear, it is possible that the flag is the USA flag because of the sign behind her.
The title of the page got the love, a short line from one of her songs linking the text to Florence. The text is in a feminine font and there are curls on the lettering the text is black matching Florence’s outfit and showing consistency.

content pages

This is a content page belonging to Q. We know this because the logo is still in the left coner of the  page. We also know it is a content page because of the masthead at the top of the page. There is also a large image covering the whole page. I dont know who this is an image of however we know he is somewhere in the music industry as it is the topic of the magazine. I believe this man was into rock because of the wild hair style, the dark colours, and the angry attitud on his face. The text is all to the left of the page the text is easy to read and stands out againt to background image. The producer have used about three colours also, red, black, and white. There is a lot of dark colours on this image giving of a negative vibe. The reader might want to find out about this man and see why he looks so angry and what he has to do with music. The text has been structure in a cronological order, giving the idea it is well structured and organised.

In this magazine the content page has a masthead covering the entire width of the page.  The masthead is big and bold but not to big there is still a lot of space for information. They have used a Brocken font with sections of the lettering missing, this colour be representing what to find in the magazine or the style of music the magazine in about. The masthead is black a bold colour that stands out as there is only a small amount of black used on this page.
The producer has stuck to three colours making the page look neat and organised. (Red, white, and black). These colours are used quite a lot as all the colours stand out against one another and contrast well.
The layout of the page is busy as there is a lot of information and 2 large images.  However the page has clear divisions of the text, by using bold subheadings and lines. Because of the lager amount of text we can see than magazine is targeted at a n older audience that top of the pops. This is because the older teenagers/young adults like to read in more detail than an average teenager.  This is clear the content page belongs to a music magazine as the girl to the right of the images is holding a guitar. And the guy to the left of the image is singing into a microphone.
The information is quite hard to read although it stands out. If I were to change anything on this content page I would change the text so it is easy to read.

This content page belongs to a popular, teenage girl music magazine, Called top of the pops. We know this because of the layout of the page and also the small shot of the cover in the left side of the page. We know this magazine is targeted at teenage girls because of the childish feminine colours the producer has used. Pink is a stereotypical colour associated with girls.
The mast head is covering the entire width of the content page, making it clear to the reader what is inside. The text is very simple but at the same time effective. Text like this is more feminine because of the carves in the lettering, a man/boy would not usually right in this style also making it clear the magazine is targeted at girls. The text is white and against the bright pink background this stands out well and captures the audience.
There is a selection of images on this mage the main image being the front cover of the magazine explaining where to find the article in the magazine. There are also images carefully placed around the page linking to the article it represents. But using a number of images the makes the reader curious about the image and teenagers don’t always like reading long articles so by having a number of pictures and smaller text teenagers are automatically drawn in. There are also images of bands that are popular to teenage girls because of their appearance. Teenage girls may only by this magazine because of one 1direction being in the magazine, gaining sales witch is what the producers want.
The layout of the magazine is well organised as the columns are placed in a neat, and consistent order. There are a number of subheadings to the magazine and a brief description on the page and where you can find them in the magazine.
In this magazine the producer has used a lot of colours but the page still looks organised as the pink and yellow is consistent through the page and used in a number of different areas.
I believe it is easy to fid certain areas because the magazine has been well structured.

music mag evaluation

Music Magazine

In this magazine there is a very bold image of Katy Perry she is wearing high wasted shorts and a crop top. Katy Perry is well know for her wild outfits and music videos. making you noticed intently this is a music magazine.
With the white background Katy Perry stand out a lot making her the focal point. This also means the sell lines stand out more and easy to read. The producer of this magazine has used feminine colours and pink indicating the target audience is teenage girls.
The title is very big and Katy Perry's head is overlapping the title. This mans it is a confident magazine and well know for people to recognise the title even if you cant see it all. However the text is black and so is her air making it more difficult to read for the people who haven't seen this magazine before.
As on all magazines there are many sell lines trying to attract the audience. This magazine refers to lyrics and artists as this is the topic the producers has chosen. The magazine has not used direct address and there is also no bar code this is a main fault to the magazine as this is important during a sale making the audience know it isn't a knock of.

This magazine has a large image of Duffy in the centre of the page. Even if people didn't recognise her in this image her name is the second largest text on the page making it clear that this is her. Duffy is wearing neutral colours meaning the producer could adjust the colours around the image.
Again there is a white backdrop behind her making Duffy stand out and a shadow behind her makes the background less boring and gives it a little light. They have also used black and blue text making the text stand out and catch you eye as there is mot much in colour. This magazine is also targeted at girls, we know this because of the female being the centre image and not many boys would listen to her style of music.

In this magazine "Q" the masthead is in the left corner at the very top making it clear this is the masthead it is a large font and easy to read as it is just one letter. The masthead is white on a red background making the masthead stand out. It doesn't go across the full width of the page because it is a small title and wouldnt fit right.
The anchorage text is about the image as to the right of the masthead this is giving additional information about the subject and draws the audience in. "i feel so alone" florence women on the edge. This is what the ancorage text says. It a line out of one of florences songs. It is very bold and eye catching and if you are a fan on her music it would make you want to read it.
The main image is a head shot of florence she is looking directly at the camera making her appear confident.
There are a number of sell lines across the page the selll lines are appropriate to the genre of the magazine because of the music florance sings and the way she looks making teenages want to find out about the latest updates on the celeberaty fashion.
